Painting II
Livy Crandall "Sloth" (left) and "Greed" (right)
12 x idk , Acrylic Paint, Glue, Magazine Clippings, 2023
These two paintings with mixed media the first two in a 7 deadly sins series that I wanted to start because the stories of it sounded cool to me. I started by painting the background and then glueing magazine clippings that I picked out for them. Some little details I really like is on greed, there is a crow and they really like shiny things so that why I added it. Also In sloth, there is a clipping at the top that looks like a match and explosion and to me it represents dreams. The artwork is just representing the 7 deadly sins, which is a christian ideology, describing things they deem, "deserving of punishment." These, and the rest of the series is in sort of a combo of surreal and non-objective because there are real aspects and also random lines and colors to express the ideas of the painting.
Livy Crandall "Baseline Peaches"
9" x 12", Water Color, 2023
At the beginning of the semester we created observation pieces to gauge our skills. I picked a card that has peaches on a plate, that is sitting on a table. I painted the water color really thick, and it sort of congealed with the paper. I actually was able to take the end of a paintbrush and drew some lines is some of the thick parts to add texture and dimension to the peaches. The piece is supposed to be sort of realisitc with a unique style.
Livy Crandall, "Observational Ornament 2"
idk, Paint, pencil, 2023

This was a midterm check and we were assigned to do an observational piece. I have actually done this ornament before in drawing 2, but I wanted to try it in a different medium. It took a lot longer than it should have and if I had to go back and change anything, I would change the table that i put it on because it doesn't match the original because it doesn't have a table and I also think it doesn't look as good as the rest of the painting. I do like all of the colors and the variations of green, blue and grey. I think it looks like the reference image, and i like that they match.
Livy Crandall, "The Underpass"
12" by 15" acrylic paint, canvas

I wanted to paint one of my favorite places as my story painting. The underpass is a place that you can walk to in the woods through a pathway at Westbrook park. I have a lot of memories of this place, and find it a really chill place to be. I started by loosely sketching the perspective and then slowly started building the layers up. I deepened the shadows and added highlights in the trees. I like the bridge angle but if i could change anything i would put more details in the sand and the rocks. Also change the water and support beams.
