Ceramics I
Livy Crandall “Pitcher and Cups”
4 x 5 x 6” and 2 x 4 x 1”
I got the idea for my pitcher and cups from the stamped pattern because it looked really cool, and I wanted to paint the different shapes individually. We were assigned to make a pitcher but I wanted to take it a little bit further. I flattened out clay, cut out the shape, and then connected the side to a base. The artwork is utilitarian and can be used as a pitcher and cups or a vase, or things to put pencils or brushes in. The thing that was most difficult was all of the different colors of glaze, and all the different layers had I to do. I love the bright colors and all of the shapes, it very much reminds me of myself, because its really fun and creative. I would only change the cups because I think they definitely need another coat of glaze, but I was impatient and rushing through it when I originally made it.
Livy Crandall “Slump and Drape Bowls”
2 x 4 x 1”

I was assigned to make two bowls using a stylophone ring and drape the clay over the ring. It was simple to make, and after I wedged the clay I rolled a pattern into it and then draped the clay over the rings. It has no real meaning, but I decided to make two small bowls so that I can use them in order to hold jewelry or other small things. If I would change one thing, I would have used different colors of glaze, because it looked like two little Christmas bowls.
Livy Crandall “Baseline”
5 x 5 x 1” (heart) 3 x 3 x 3” (coil vase)

I made these two pieces here when I first went to my ceramics class and was told to just made two things. I think they turned out pretty ok on the first try. If I was going to try and remake these pieces, I would definitely try and make a foot on both of them because they both sit pretty weirdly on flat surfaces
Livy Crandall “Skull Vase”

I got the idea to make this because I wanted a skull jar but I thought that might be difficult, so I just made some tiny skulls and decided to add them to a vase. I wanted the eyes originally to be a solid color, but in the kiln, the color that I put in the eye sockets eneded up running and turning green, so the vase sorta looks like it has tiny posion dripping skulls on it, which I think is really sick looking. It doesn't symbolize anything, and it is just for decoration. I think that this could be surreal because it could happen, but you would have to set the scene up. I really love how the cute skulls turned into the position skulls.
